Dr. Schlyer believes surgery should be recommended only when it truly adds value, not because it’s the default option. His approach is evidence-driven and highly personalized, focusing on what’s best for each individual. By treating the whole patient, he delivers thoughtful and comprehensive foot and ankle care.
Dr. Schlyer treats a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, with a special focus on sports injuries, bunions, flatfoot and cavus deformities, arthritis, and diabetic foot care. His expertise includes bunion correction, tendon and ligament repair, fracture care, complex reconstructions, and revision surgery for challenging or non-healing conditions.

Dr. Schlyer chose a career in podiatry because of the profound impact foot and ankle care has on a person’s daily life. He was drawn to the opportunity to diagnose the problem, provide meaningful solutions, and help patients regain their independence.
Today, Dr. Schlyer proudly serves patients across Greater Portland at our Cedar Mill, Hoyt, and Wilsonville offices. He is honored to support the health and mobility of the communities he serves.
Dr. Schlyer began his academic journey at St. Olaf College for his undergraduate degree. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University in Chicago, one of the nation’s leading institutions for foot and ankle education.
