Dr. Bunka specializes in podiatry with a focus on sports medicine, trauma, and reconstructive care. She treats conditions such as ankle sprains, fractures, plantar fasciitis, and arthritis. Her expertise includes ligament and tendon repair, fracture care, and arthroplasty, and she is particularly known for advanced osteochondral defect (OCD) repairs.

Dr. Bunka’s journey into podiatry was shaped by a lifelong passion for sports and science. Originally from Toronto and raised in Northern California, she developed an early interest in sports medicine. While working as a medical assistant for an orthopedic surgeon during her undergraduate studies, she discovered a strong interest in foot and ankle care and the complexity of these injuries, which ultimately guided her career path.

 

Today, Dr. Bunka is proud to serve the Greater Portland community she calls home. Living locally allows her to build meaningful connections with her patients and better understand their needs. She is committed to helping individuals stay active, recover from injury, and maintain long-term mobility, making a lasting impact through personalized, compassionate care. Dr. Bunka also understands the hurdles of navigating today’s healthcare system and is dedicated to advocating for her patients to ensure they always feel heard, informed, and supported.

Dr. Bunka’s Medical Training & Academic Foundation

Dr. Bunka earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, where she built a deep understanding of human movement and biomechanics. She then went on to complete her podiatric medical education at the California School of Podiatric Medicine (CSPM) in Oakland.

Following medical school, Dr. Bunka completed her residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, where she gained extensive experience in foot and ankle surgery. She then went on to do a specialized fellowship in reconstruction, trauma, and arthroplasty through the California Reconstruction, Trauma, and Arthroplasty Foot and Ankle Fellowship. 

Prior to joining Northwest Extremity Specialists, she practiced with a private orthopedic group in Gresham, where she developed significant experience treating sports-related injuries.

Hobbies and Interests Outside of Podiatry

Outside of work, Dr. Bunka enjoys spending time with her husband, Joe, their two daughters, Sloane and Wyatt, and their two dogs. She stays active as both a coach and member at OrangeTheory Fitness and is currently training for her first marathon. At home, she also enjoys taking on house and yard projects, much to her husband’s amusement.
